The Number One Reason People Get Stuck in a Weight Loss Plateau – Does This Happen to You Too?
If you find yourself stuck in a weight loss plateau then the problem most likely lies in the way you are dieting over a period of time. Many people go into a weight loss program and drop their daily calorie intake, this usually results in very pleasing results on the scale, but internally the body is starting to worry that there is not enough food and it creates a weight loss plateau. This article shares the number one reason plateaus occur and how to outsmart the body and lose weight again.
The main reason people get stuck in a weight loss plateau is because they keep their calorie intake too low for too long. The body adapts to changes in your diet very quickly and when you eat fewer calories your body begins to worry that you are moving into a period of starvation.
To protect against starvation the body slams the brakes on your metabolism which basically preserves your body’s fat storage. In other words, you are cutting calories to burn fat and your body is saying there is a problem we better hang on to this body fat.
To break this plateau you must convince the body that there is plenty of food and you can do this by boosting your eating. Start by eating 25% more calories than you had been eating for one day. For instance, a woman who had been eating a daily diet of 1,200 calories should boost that intake to 1,500. At the same time boost your exercise by either increase the amount of time you exercise or your intensity.
This temporary increase in calories is enough to convince the body that it is okay to burn body fat and it kicks your metabolism back into gear.
You can use this simple method anytime you get stuck in a weight loss plateau and continue to lose weight until you reach your ultimate goal.
